CNIPA Released Main IP Data from January to June 2023 (2023-7)


On July 6, 2023, China National Intelligence Property Administration (CNIPA) released the statistics of China's patents, trademarks, geographical indications and integrated circuit layout designs from January to June in 2023.

From January to June in 2023, a total of 433,000 applications for a patent for invention were granted; a total of 1,104,000 utility models were granted; and 344,000 designs were granted. There were 35,500 international patent applications accepted under the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT), wherein 33,000 patent applications were filed by domestic applicants. From January to May, 779 applications for international registration for design were filed by Chinese applicants through the Hague Agreement Concerning the International Registration of Industrial Designs. From January to June, a total of 752 published international applications for designs were designated in China.

From January to June in 2023, 3.485 million trademarks were filed for registration; 2.018 million trademarks were approved for registration. 3,024 applications for international registration of Madrid trademarks were received from domestic applicants.

From January to June in 2023, there were 3 approvals for the protection of geographical products of geographical indications; 97 geographical indications were registered as collective marks and certification marks; 3,509 market entities were approved to use the special marks of the geographical indications. By June 2023, there were cumulative 2,498 approvals for the protection of geographical products of geographical indications, cumulative 7,173 geographical indications were registered as collective marks and certification marks, and cumulative 25,219 market entities were approved to use the special marks of the geographical indications.

From January to June in 2023, 5,555 applications were filed for the registration of layout design of integrated circuits and 4,861 certificates were issued.
